288 GRADUATE FROM GRADES
Yankton County Schools Hold Graduation From 7th And 8th Grades
Two hundred and eighty-eight seventh and eighth grade pupils of the rural schools of Yankton county were given their certificates showing completion of work in those grades at a graduation exercise held this forenoon at Forbes hall, Yankton college, at which Dr. G. W. Nash, president of the college, delivered the address.
The program at the college was opened at 10 o’clock this morning by an organ prelude and was followed by the invocation by Rev. L. C. Milliken, pastor of the Yankton Evangelical church. The music for the program was furnished by the Yankton County chorus under the direction of Mrs. Joy Reither of this city. After a number by this chorus Dr. Nash spoke to the graduates and after another musical number the certificates were presented to the boys and girls of the two classes by F. F. Schaeffer, county superintendent.
The largest number of graduates from both classes came from District No. 2 with a total of 18, 12 eighth grade and 6 seventh grade graduates. This district had the largest number of graduates from the eighth grade in the county.
Honors were divided between Districts 16 and 19 each of which had seven children completing the work of this grade and receiving certificates.
I purchased roughly 25 original issues of the Yankton (South Dakota) Press & Dakotan, dating from 1938 to 1946. I am systematically going through every issue and will be posting the articles that include the names of individuals. I am happy to email full-size scans of any article. Feel free to ask.
