It’s less than a month until RootsTech begins, and I’m not going.
Don’t get me wrong. I love going to genealogy conferences as much as the next person, but I’ve never been to RootsTech. I never really even had the desire to go.
For one thing, it’s in February. In Utah. The single-digit temperatures here in Chattanooga this past week have only reinforced my desire NOT to be anywhere further north of the 36th parallel until Spring. It’s also a very long (not to mention expensive) trip, and – let’s be honest – if I’m going to spend that amount of money, I’m going to spend every waking moment researching at the Family History Library.
But I’ll still be there.
This year, DearMYRTLE has asked me – along with Barry Kline and Russ Worthington (aka “Cousin Russ”) – to assist with her workshop/presentation: “Google Hangouts 101a – The Panelists’ View,” which will be held on both Thursday and Friday. I will be attending remotely as a JOINer, but Russ and Barry will be there in person. Ol’ Myrt has more details about the presentation on her blog here. Even though I will only play a small part in the presentation, I am humbled and honored to have even been asked to participate (plus, I got this nifty speaker badge for my blog!)
You can find out more about RootsTech and register to attend here. Early bird pricing ($159) has been extended to January 27, so get registered sooner rather than later to save a few bucks. (Psst … you can use those extra bucks to attend a workshop or two in the computer lab!)So on February 6 and 7, I will be in two places at one time! How’s that for technology? (Of course, while everyone in Salt Lake City is bundling up and dodging snowballs, I’ll be warm and cozy in my sweat pants and sequin-y slippers at home).
“See” you there!
