Happy St. Valentine’s Day, folks! In honor of this romantic day, I’m going to forego the traditional imprisonment, beating, and beheading this year in favor of some wedding photos of couples in my tree who were married here in America (the ones for which I actually have photos, anyway).
First are my paternal great grandparents, Thomas Patrick Slowey and Christina Ann Huber on their wedding day, April 17, 1917. They were married in Yankton, South Dakota. I’m not sure if these were the clothes they wore to be married, but I’m told this photo was taken the same day.
These are my maternal grandparents, John Joseph Gallagher and Mary Lou Crowe on their wedding day, January 20, 1945. They were married in Indianapolis, Indiana. They had to find some random guy to be the best man because all the men in town were away at war!
Harold John Crowe, Sr. and Lucile Frances Stiker are my maternal great grandparents (and the parents of Mary Lucile Crowe, above). They were married on September 16, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
Louis Schneider and Mary Alice Egan are my paternal great great grandparents. They were married on November 18, 1877 in Yankton, South Dakota.
These are my paternal grandparents, Edward John Lanctot and Clare Maxine Slowey, married on August 14, 1944 in Yankton, South Dakota.
… and not one of these marriages ended in divorce (as far as I can tell)!
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
